General Info: Uses and Effects

Crestor Generic (Rosuvastatin Calcium) is the part of the class of drugs known as statin. A Japanese pharmaceutical company named Shionogi, developed this class of medicine. One thing to note is Rosuvastatin is marketed under the trade name Crestor Generic. Initially, this drug is used for the treatment of dyslipidemia. Dyslipidemia is a condition in which the blood contains abnormal amounts of lipids like triglycerides, cholesterol, and fat phospholipids.

Crestor Rosuvastatin is used for lowering cholesterol levels. It reduces the amount of bad cholesterol in our blood. It slows down the growth of fatty deposits in our blood vessels. Clinical studies point out that Crestor Generic has the strongest effect on lowering cholesterol levels when compared to other known statins.

Contraindication: Important to Know

Before continuing or starting the medication, inform your doctor if you suffered from liver or kidney diseases, diabetes, or the thyroid problem. In extreme cases, Rosuvastatin can cause breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue which can lead to kidney failure.

If you have any sudden/unexpected or persistent weakness, muscle pain, or tenderness, immediately consult your doctor. If the same condition persists along with fever, tiredness, and dark urine, then act wisely and call your doctor right away. Pregnant women should avoid taking this drug because it can harm an unborn baby or cause birth defects.

It has not been proven yet whether Crestor Rosuvastatin is transmitted through breast milk or not, but due to the risk of disturbance of the baby's lipid metabolism, it is recommended that patients not breast-feed during the Rosuvastatin therapy.

People who drink alcohol should totally avoid it because it can raise the triglyceride level and increase the risk of liver damage. Foods that are high in fat or cholesterol should also be avoided. Crestor Generic won't be effective in lowering cholesterol if a low cholesterol diet is not followed.

Instructions on Taking

Like any other medicine, Crestor Rosuvastatin should be consumed in the same way as prescribed by the doctor. It should not be taken in larger or smaller amounts or for durations other than recommended. For example, if the doctor recommends it for one month, then it should be one month and should not be consumed within 25 days and leave the remaining unless there are side effects.

Rosuvastatin is not the only thing to reduce cholesterols in your body. It is a part of the complete treatment which includes diet, exercise and weight control. Along with taking the medicine, you will have to follow your daily routines (diet and exercise) very properly.

Crestor Generic is very effective if taken during the night time as most of the cholesterol is produced in this duration. This drug should not be consumed with any other cholesterol lowering statins or any other drugs that lower cholesterol.

Before beginning the medication, read the patient information leaflet if you pharmacist makes it available for you. The dosage that the doctor recommends is based on your medical condition, age, race, other medications you are taking, and your response to the treatment. Therefore, be sure to tell your physician and pharmacist everything about your medical condition and the medicines you use or have used.

Dosage

The dosage for adults ranges between 5mg and 40mg. In general, the starting dose is 10mg to 20mg once every day. The maximum dose of 40mg is only recommended to those patients who have not their LDL-C goal using the 20mg dose earlier and who have abnormally high cholesterols.

Crestor Rosuvastatin can be taken as a single dose at any time of the day or as suggested by the doctor, with or without food.

The dosage should be less than 10mg if a patient is less than 10 years old, and it should be at max 20mg for patients below 17 years of age.

If someone has overdosed himself/herself with Crestor Generic and has serious issue like trouble breathing, immediately call out for help or your local emergency. If you have missed a dose and if it is near the time of the next one i.e. within 12 hours, then skip the dose and take the other dosage in the usual time. Be sure to not take the dose again to catch up and double it.

Keep the medicine away from children and pets. It should not be stored in damp conditions or in your bathroom.

Side Effects

The doctor surely will look for all the pros and cons of the medicine before prescribing it to you. And the medication will only be prescribed if the benefit of taking it is higher than the risky side effects.

It is rare that people taking Crestor Rosuvastatin may have mild memory problems and confusion. If this happens to you, visit your doctor.

Consult your doctor right away if you have side effects like:

• Foamy urine;
• Muscle pain;
• Tenderness;
• Weakness;
• Fever with unusual tiredness;
• Kidney problems like change in the amount of urine;
• Yellowing skin/eyes;
• Nausea/vomiting;
• Stomach/abdominal pain;
• Rashes/itching/swelling especially on face/tongue /throat;
• Dizziness, trouble breathing.

Interaction with Other Drugs

Interaction of Crestor Rosuvastatin with other drugs can cause serious side effects. You should keep in mind not to change/stop or start the dosage of any other medicines without the doctor's consent. Blood thinners like Warfarin, Gemfibrozil may interact with this drug. Medications like Ledipasvir, Sofosbuvir may work towards removing Rosuvastatin from your body.

Red yeast rice products may contain a statin called Lovastatin thus do not take this rice while on medication. Taking red yeast rice and Crestor Generic together might lead to the development of serious muscle and liver problems.
